We had nearly 30 participants in the first training and demonstration session on good agro-forestry practices of the Territorial Programme +SOLO +VIDA.
The workshop “Electric fences for pasture management” was the first training session and demonstration of good agrosilvopastoral practices of the Territorial Program +SOLO +VIDA.
This action brought together, on February 24, 2023, in Corte Gafo de Baixo, Mértola, 30 technicians and farmers involved in the project and coming from other regions of the Alentejo and Algarve with whom they shared theoretical and practical knowledge about this tool, an alternative to conventional permanent fences widely used in the Parque Natural do Vale do Guadiana.
With the right knowledge and maintenance, mobile electric fences are a practical and effective solution for dividing up plots of land for grazing sheep. They allow cattle to be distributed in places where the vegetation is more abundant and nutritious, favouring the renewal of herbaceous vegetation and preventing erosion, as well as helping to conserve the carbon stored in the soil.
